Abstract

After an introduction to the situation of Catalan in the post-war period, the slowly re-emerging theatre in Barcelona, Majorca and València and its circumstances are presented. In València, a regime-compliant and not very innovative, mostly humorous theatre initially prevailed in a diglossic situation. After the first post-war years, religious theatre and entertainment theatre emerged. Scholarly theatre began in 1947 with Martí Domínguez (1908-1984), who in the 1970s, especially with No n'eren deu?, together with other authors, contributed to the further revaluation of Catalan-language drama in València.
