Abstract

This paper gives an overview of the history of “La gralla i la dalla”, a group of cultural activists that existed in Lleida between 1974 and 1985. This movement, which in the first time evolved out of the Humanities section of Lleida’s newly-founded university but later on became less dependent on academic circles, was primarily dedicated to the promotion of poetry in Catalan and to that of various forms of visual and performing arts, but also maintained pro-Catalanist political positions. The genesis of the group is situated in the evolving cultural landscape of Lleida between the end of the Civil war and the final decade of Franco’s dictatorship. Special attention is paid to an analysis of the literary review L’Estrof which was published by the group between 1979 and 1985.
