The article gives an overview of the presentations of section 12, Literary and Media-Aesthetic Learning, at the 24th Symposium on Teaching German as a First Language in Vienna. It is based on the assumption that the diversity of the studies presented in the section holds both opportunities and challenges for empirical research in the field of teaching German as a first language. This is illustrated in the article by means of three diversity dimensions, the objects, the methods, and the (also political) implications of the research results. Based on the observations, conclusions are drawn for future studies.
