Abstract

Summary: Cultural and economic relationships between Germany and Mallorca began forming in the 1960s, when Mallorca became the favourite destination for German tourists. This long relationship between both nationalities has created a common image of German people which is based on clichés and prejudices. The main aim of this article is to analyse the literary image of German people in Majorcan crime novels. In order to develop this analysis, following aspects are examined: a theoretical introduction to imagology, the creation of the image of the German nation as well as a brief description of the relationships between Majorcan and German people. The practical analysis of the crime novels aims to illustrate how the authors interpret the above- mentioned relationship and in which way stereotypes and clichés are used.
