Abstract

This article presents an inventory and typologically classifies 36 popular tales (rondalles)
collected by Joaquim Gonzàlez i Caturla in the Alacant region, the Alacantí. This catalogue is
supplemented by explanatory comments and references to similar stories, mainly of Catalan and Castilian origin. The classification is based on Antti Aarne and Stith Thompson's wellknown inventory of types of folk tales. This contribution is part of a project aimed at compiling nearly 300 versions of traditional sagas and tales of the Valencian comarques,
which are already largely published.                                                                                                The contribution shows that the narratives of the Alacantí form a rich repertory that includes both miracle and fairy tale narratives (corresponding to the Aa-Th types 750A [The Peasant Woman is Changed into a Woodpecker], Aa-Th 480 [The Spinning-Women by the Spring. The Kind and the Unkind Girls] or Aa-Th 332 [Godfather Death]) as well as exempla and moralizing narratives (corresponding to Aa-Th 1370 [The Lazy Wife]) and numerous other motives.
