Abstract

The Department of German as a Foreign Language (DaF) is part of the Center for Foreign Language Education (ZFA) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), which was founded in 2006. The ZFA is a central operating unit and is responsible for providing foreign language courses for (international) students and RUB staff. (see also Ruhr-Universität Bochum 2020: 2). The ZFA's German as a Foreign Language department offers both preparatory and study-related courses. The preparatory courses are tailored to the communicative requirements of studying and research. The study-related courses include general and academic language courses as well as special courses, e.g. on regional studies and phonetics (see Ruhr-Universität Bochum - DaF Homepage). For selected target groups and partners, the DaF department in the ZFA offers special programs that are assigned to study support. A prominent and well-established example of this is the Summer School.
