Abstract

Summary: In this article I publish, analyze and comment on two Majorcan versions of «Aesop’s Tale», reported in 2016 and recorded in 2018 in the Majorcan town of Pina. The folktale consists of five episodes: three of them are taken from anonymous Aesop’s Life, presumably from one of the various Catalan translations of which there is evidence, and the other two come from other oral folktales (ATU 875 and ATU 785A). This Majorcan folktale is the third documentation of the ATU 785A type and the first of the ATU 921B (1) type in Catalan-speaking territories. Keywords: literature, Aesop’s Life, oral literature, folktale, tale type.
