Abstract

Based on the need to expand and update the normative lexicon of Catalan, the article discusses criteria for the inclusion of lexemes. The author criticizes the insufficient consideration of regional vocabulary with wide distribution from the Balearic, Valencian and Tortosí areas and the western Catalan forms in general. A number of Tortosian lexemes meet the proposed criteria and have both enriched the historical vocabulary and helped bridge the current gap between spoken and written language. The author sees himself in agreement with more recent works by the philological section of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans as well as modern dialectology and lexicography.
