Abstract

Summary: In his extensive filmography, Ventura Pons explores and redefines the national and cultural Catalan identity, from the Transition to the present day, through the representation of the cityscape of Barcelona. In this article, we analyze the visual images and the allusions to the cityscapes in some of the Catalan filmmaker’s movies that reach from the configuration of Barcelona as a symbol of the anti-Francoist resistance and the defense of the democratic liberties to the examination of the effects that the current capitalist modernization has had.
