'Comunitat lingüística' i 'conflicte lingüístic': revisió d'uns termes sociolingüístics respecte al discurs valencià

Abstract

Summary: The present contribution deals with the phenomenon of linguistic secessionism in the Comunitat Valenciana and therefore with intra-communal conflicts over language and identity. In view of the fact that competition among views on historical, cultural and linguistic Catalan identity is still fierce, the sociolinguistic concepts of linguistic community and linguistic conflict will be reviewed critically and confronted from the perspective of discourse theory. The terms won from this perspective – discourse community and identity discourse – suggest an approach which takes account of the social, cognitive and linguistic aspects of the conflict.
