Abstract

The present article deals with the topic of the translation of requests from German to Catalan and the role of politeness analysis in these translations. In this context, the problem that arises
in translation due to the use of certain pragmatic attenuation markers in a type of exhortative speech act is investigated. It turns out that, first of all, it is necessary to determine the factors that regulate the level of courtesy between the interlocutors, following several formulations. Secondly, from an intercultural perspective, which is so necessary in translation, it must be borne in mind that the use of certain markers or others depends on cultural conventions.
