This article provides an overview of biographical differences and similarities of Mecklenburg's party officials of the "second tier" who seized the opportunities to be promoted in the German Social Democratic Party during the Empire and the Weimar Republic. The author traces the career and life paths of Albert Schultz (1886-1974), Carl Moltmann (1884-1960), Margarete Ketelhohn (1884-1969), Wilhelm Höcker (1886-1955) and Willy Jesse (1897-1971) across the upheavals of revolution, National Socialism and the post-war era until the 1960s. In doing so, he reconstructs the individual as well as the collective expectations and experiences of social democrats.Downloads
